Valley of Fire State Park

Just an hour outside of Las Vegas, Nevada lies the gorgeous Valley of Fire State Park! Full of Instagram worthy photo spots, ancient petroglyphs and stunning hikes, this is a must-do park when traveling near Vegas. It’s only $10 per car and the highlights can easily be covered in a few hours!

The Fire Wave

The parks most famous hike, The Fire Wave, can get crowded so avoid weekends and holidays. It’s a 1.2 mile out and back trail that begins at parking lot #3. This trail is sand and flat rock and has very little elevation change. Allow 45 minutes round trip.

Atlatl Rock Petroglyphs

Just a short, flat walk from the parking area, are some of the parks best Petroglyphs. Definitely take the time to climb the stairs and see them up close (along with lots of other graffiti 😒). The parking area has restrooms and space for oversized vehicles.

White Domes Loop

The White Domes loop is an easy 1 mile loop that passes an by old western movie set and through a slot canyon. There are also beautiful striped rocks (like the ones at the Fire Wave) that bring so much character to this landscape.

Important reminders:

It can get hot and most of these hikes are in full sun. Bring sunscreen, a hat and plenty of water.

Leave extra time for frolicking. There are some gorgeous moonscape looking areas that are fun to let the kids out to run around. Make sure to leave time to discover places that aren’t on the map!

These hikes are on loose sand and stone, so strollers and wheelchairs are not recommended.
