Achieving your life dreams with a bucket list!

Achieving your life dreams starts with a bucket list! Why? Because many dreams take years of work, study, or preparation to accomplish! Whether it’s visiting the pyramids in Egypt, writing a novel, or earning a college degree, it requires before thought and preparation.

Visualizing your bucket list (or top 100 list) helps you set short term goals now that will help you achieve all of your dreams! It can also help you get rid of things in your life that drain your time, energy and money (and don’t get you closer to your goals!)

So, how do you make a bucket list?

Start with items you have already done that you are proud of.

This may seem counterintuitive, because you have already achieved these goals. But, this helps you get an understanding of what makes you happy and what you are proud of. So start with at least 20 items that you are proud to have done. These can be big or small (examples: graduate high school, go snorkeling, hike 5 miles, pet a jellyfish, visit 10 countries)!

Make an effort to reach 100 goals on your list.

This is actually pretty hard to do and may take several months to accomplish. If you break it down into categories it becomes much easier. Keep going until you reach 100!

Think about these categories:

Travel

Relationships

Work life/dream jobs

Physical fitness

Learn new skills

Serving others

Overcoming difficulties

Education/intellectual

Spiritual/religious

Try to be specific.

“Change the world for someone”’ is a great goal, but how do you want to do that? (Foster a child, teach English, volunteer with the homeless). If you don’t have a concrete idea in mind it’s going to be harder to accomplish. So try to be specific. This will also help you reach 100 items more easily.

Write down the dreams that feel impossible.

It’s tempting to just write down the items that are reasonable and not too difficult to accomplish. Those type of goals are fine to write down, but you also need to write down the goals that feel impossible to accomplish! (Get a PhD, complete 50 marathons, write a novel, visit 50 countries). You need to dream big and write goals that will stretch you to your limits and beyond!

Sequential goals are great.

If you are not a runner but dream of completing a marathon, you could include all of these on your bucket list: Run a 5k, 10k, Half marathon, Marathon. Having sequential goals actually makes it more likely to achieve the big goals!

Write your list somewhere you can see it often.

You are going to want to refer to it frequently. You can start a list on your phone (notes app is easy), put it in your journal, hang it on your wall. Whatever will allow you to see it and even add to it as you discover new ideas and get more inspiration.

So grab a paper and pen and get started! There are tons of lists online that have great ideas for bucket list items! This site has some awesome idea:
