Our top family friendly cliff jumping spots

Cliff jumping at Crater Lake

We love finding gorgeous places to jump into water. Here are some of our favorite cliff jumping spots from around the country. These are all family friendly because they have 1) Safe an easy access places to climb and jump 2) Safe and easy places to exit the water 3) Don’t require long and impossible hikes to access 4) Are incredibly beautiful.

Crater Lake

Crater Lake, Oregon

If you are looking for sheer beauty, then this is the place to go. The water is the most beautiful deep blue with turquoise in the shallow parts. The hike down is around a mile (be prepared for the long slog back up) and this requires the most hiking of all the places we are highlighting. There are changing areas and bathrooms at the bottom of the lake and a small jumping platform area is readily visible. The only downside, is the water is freezing!

Grasshopper point

Grasshopper Point State Park, Sedona, Az

This is one of the best cliff jumping spots I’ve ever seen! It is located in an extremely busy state park, so go early or in the late afternoon to get a parking spot. It’s a very short hike to the water and this water will feel balmy compared to Crater Lake! This is ideal for all ages and skill levels because they have spots to jumping ranging from 8-10 feet all the way up to 30-40 feet. If you don’t mind climbing up some weeds you can get even higher than that! $8 per car entry fee.

Upper Ammonoosuc Falls, NH

Upper Ammonoosuc Falls, Mt Washington, NH

This hidden gem is conveniently called “cliff jump” according to google maps, and is located just off the side of the road when you are headed to or from the Mt Washington Cog train. We stopped here for 1/2 hour after our train ride and enjoyed the multiple cliff jumping spots 10-25 feet high) and the calm water below. There is an area for younger kids to wade in the rocks and shallow water. I did see a warning that deaths have occurred here when the water is high and turbulent, so if the water doesn’t look calm and swimmable, stay away!

J Percy Priest Reservoir, Nashville, TN

We stayed at the RV campground here and there were so many spots to cliff jump into the water. However, it’s a little trickier finding a place where you can actually get back out of the water. Choose wisely before you jump!

Disclaimer: Cliff jumping can be dangerous and in some places is illegal. Make sure you check before you jump! Stay safe friends!
